Iconographer BiographyAshraf F Gerges was born in Egypt in
1965 and. he graduated from Ain Shames University in 1985. He then
joined the Higher Institute of Coptic Studies to complete advanced
studies in Coptic Iconography under the supervision of the late Dr
Isaac Fanous a famous Iconographer.
In 1990 he obtained a Masters Degree
in Coptic Iconography ‘The Meaning and Theology of Coptic Icons.’
Since then he was chosen to assist Dr Isaac Fanous in teaching
Coptic Iconography at the Higher Institute of Coptic Studies.
He moved to Australia in 2002 and was
chosen by His Grace Bishop Suriel, Bishop of Melbourne and
affiliated regions to complete his mission in teaching and creating
Coptic icons.
His work has been displayed in
several exhibitions all over the world.
Over sixty Coptic churches around the
world have been decorated by Icons created by Ashraf Gerges.
Ashraf is widely known among the
others church denominations. Greek, Sweedish, Roman Catholic and
French Orthodox churches are some examples. He has led teaching
courses for the congregations of these churches and his Icons are
displayed on their church walls.
The
Orthodox Culture in Venice, Italy granted Ashraf Fayek with is
silver medal in 1993 for his efforts in the field of Orthodox
Studies.
